ABOUT ME
I'm a research librarian at American University and freelance writer/journalist based in Washington DC. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA where I proudly earned my BA in English Literature and MLIS from the University of Pittsburgh. It was there that a mad band of Russians and Turks, with some assistance from Thierry Henry, introduced me to the beauties of the Beautiful Game during the 2006 World Cup. I’ve been a devoted, obsessive fan ever since, always seeking to grasp the history and gain a deeper understanding of the world’s finest game. My soccer musings have been published on ESPN FC, In Bed With Maradona and SB Nation where I’m currently a staff writer/editor for Managing Madrid, an acclaimed Real Madrid blog with a global following. When not watching or writing about soccer, I’m thinking, researching and/or writing about music, oral history, film, American studies, housing policy, citizen journalism, information literacy, service learning, literature and creative non-fiction. Other outlets that have featured my writing include the monograph Soccer Culture in America: Essays on the World’s Sport in Red, White and Blue as well as the Huffington Post, Library Journal, Educational Media Review Online (EMRO) and Education Review. I live in Silver Spring, MD with my beautiful wife Alison, our amazing son Miles and fluffy orange cat, Jo-Jo.
